You do not need a navigation licence for any of our vessels. However, we do expect you to have a reasonable amount of sailing experience. If you feel you are not quite up to the task, you can always take a few sailing lessons on the hired vessel. In general, it will only take 3 hours to get your sailing skills up to scratch.

In order to carry out good Sailer’s skills, it is helpful to have knowledge of some of the water-(sports) rules.

The most important rules are:

* Commercial ships always have right of way.

* Fairways and crossings must be seen as priority roads, were one sails starboard.

* Outside the fairways and crossings a motor ship makes way for a sailing ship.

* A ship sailing over portside has right of way over a ship sailing over starboard.

* If two sailing ships are both sailing the same bow, the ship sailing windward will make way.

* But: always try to avoid a collision! Even when you are in your right (good seaman’s skills).

* PLEASE NOTE: The water police takes regular control trips and checks for drinking&sailing; fine tickets will be given when you are in violation.
